St. Mark’s is ready to assist a family during the most difficult time of funeral planning and services. It is a painful and difficult experience, but God’s grace always brings a certain peace to loved ones as they prepare for a most holy and dignified funeral service.

Generally, funeral masses are celebrated at the parish on weekday mornings at 10:00am. The parish works with local a funeral director to schedule vigils/rosaries, the Mass of Christian Burial and, if requested a graveside service at a Roman Catholic or other cemetery following the funeral Mass. If the body of the deceased is to be cremated, a blessing of the inured cremains may occur at a later date. If the body is not present at the Mass, a memorial Mass is celebrated which is very similar in structure to a Mass of Christian Burial, less the final commendation and prayers over the body.

The parish also will of course assist the family in choosing readings and selecting music for the funeral Mass. PLEASE NOTE: Any music for a Mass of Christian Burial or a Memorial Mass must be performed live, and must be of sacred character. The use of recorded and/or secular music is strictly forbidden. Please contact the parish office for more information at (805) 968-1078.
